FORGIVING FATHER
By: Montague Vaughn Talasan
Yes, if you forgive others for the things they do wrong, then your Father in heaven will also forgive you for the things you do wrong. Matthew 6:14
One morning, a loud noise awakened me. Curious of what was going on, I jumped from my bed and tiptoed to where the noise came from. I stopped at the door of my parent's room. Then I listened. Dad and mom took turns raising their voices. I was stunned. I was not used to hearing them quarrel. I softly called out, "Dad, what's wrong?"
"Nothing!" he snapped, "Just go to school!"
Blood rushed to my face. I was angry with Dad. Why did he shout at me? I opened their door wanting to confront him. I saw him crying. But I didn't care. My anger was more than my pity for him.
I left their room and rushed to school without breakfast. But my mind kept bothering me about what transpired in the house. Dad's voice continued ringing in my ears. I recalled the times in the past when I did something bad. Dad would always come to me and in a soft voice would ask, "Casey, what's wrong?" He was always gentle. and for me no father is more than kind than him. But why did he shout at me?
At lunch, I decided not to eat at home. I would rather stay in school. Just then, a freind came. "Casey, there's someone looking for you. I think its your dad."
Dad? I wanted to hide to run away from him, but it was too late. I saw him walk toward me. He quickly hugged me and kissed me. "I'm very sorry. i love you so much." My anger melted in thin air. I began to sob. Dad hugged me tighter.
"I'm very sorry," I blurted out. "I love you too dad, more than you know."
I thank God for Dad. He may not be perfect, but I admire his humbleness to say sorry even to his children. What an example he set for my brother and me!
