A TIME APART

By: Rhea Noreen Mae Caldito

She watches over her family. And she is always busy. Proverbs 31:27

My mother and I grew from different worlds. While I enjoy the love and security of a complete family, my mother has to help my father make ends meet. She is the only daughter and my grandpa died early. While I am previleged to obtain an education, Mama had to quit school to do odd jobs including selling books. she did not finish high school to do odd jobs including selling books. She did not finish high school.

Today, when I wash clothes, I just turn on the timer. Mama had to hike to the river. If I go to places I just drive my motor bike, while mama in her time had to trust the mercy of her good legs. At 18, I enjoy being single while Mama had to settle down for security sake.

But she never complained to me why I'm enjoying what she was supposed to have. Or that I am not going through the hardship she once, in my age, bore. Instead she incourages me to work hard, have the right attitude, and be diligent in my studies. She didnt want me to lose what she gave up. she works hard with my father under extreme conditions to raise my siblings and me in the most comfortable life possible. they sacrifice to give us what they didn't have.

Like Mama, our Heavenly Father also doesnt want us to go through the pain and humiliation on the cross because of sin. But he willingly laid down His life so that we may have eternal life.

With this thought in mind, I am grateful that I have a strong, loving, and inspiring mother who does what she could for her children. I wish to be responble, too. Just like Mom.
